Looking to kitesurf all year round in Greece? From the breathtaking beaches of Naxos and the windswept coastlines of Rhodes to the hidden gems like Prassonisi and Elounda, embrace the ultimate blend of work and play as a digital nomad in Greece, where the azure Aegean Sea and vibrant culture beckon. Here's how to secure a digital nomad visa for Greece, extendable for up to three years!

What is the Greece Digital Nomad Visa?

The Greece digital nomad visa comes with multiple benefits. For starters, unlike some other countries, Greece allows digital nomads to stay for one year and extend the residence permit for another 12 months. To stay for more than one year, you have to apply for a residence permit before your digital nomad visa expires. Another significant benefit is that you won’t have to pay taxes if you stay in Greece for no more than six months. The digital nomad visa allows remote workers, entrepreneurs, and self-employed individuals to stay in Greece and do their business remotely while looking over historic sites and the ocean. The visa is only applicable provided you do not engage in business activity in Greece or have Greek-dependent employment.

Eligibility for the Greece Digital Nomad Visa

To qualify for the Greece digital nomad visa, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Non-EU, EEA, or Swiss citizenship.

  • Monthly earnings of at least €3,500.

  • Employment or ownership of a company registered outside of Greece

Application Process: A Step by Step Guide

  • Gather and organize all required documents.

  • Fill out the digital nomad visa application form.

  • Reach out to the Greek embassy or consulate in your home country to schedule an appointment.

  • Attend the scheduled appointment and submit your application file to the embassy/consulate.

  • Pay the necessary fees, which include a €75 application fee and a €150 administration fee, both of which are non-refundable.

  • Await a response, keeping in mind that, according to the Immigration and Social Integration Code, you should receive an answer within ten business days of submitting the form. However, delays may occur due to a high volume of applications, and you might need to be patient for about a month.

  • If applicable, consider bringing your close family members with you to Greece. Eligible family members include your spouse and children under 18, with the possibility of children over 18 being eligible if they are dependent on you for financial or medical reasons. You will need to apply for each family member separately and provide additional documents proving the relationship or child custody. Check with your nearest Greek embassy or consulate for specific document requirements.

  • If bringing your family, be aware that you will need proof of a higher monthly income. The monthly amount increases by 20% for bringing your partner and 15% for each child.

  • Upon approval, travel to Greece and register for your residence permit at the nearest Aliens and Immigration Department office.

  • If you are going to stay in Greece for longer than your visa duration, you must apply for a Digital Nomad Resident Permit at the Aliens and Immigration Department of the Decentralized Administration office. This permit is valid for up to two years and can be re-extended.

You’ll need either a booking confirmation or a residential lease, your visa, and your passport to apply for the permit.

  • Embrace and enjoy your stay!
